For the longest time the working triangle was the most common way to layout your kitchen. However, the trend has changed and a more detailed layout based more on function has taken its place.

To maximize your kitchen organization and efficiency, it’s best to set up your kitchen into 4 zones. Organizing by zones allows you to place the items you need near the spaces you need them most and maximize the function of your kitchen.

Zone 1: The Food Prep Zone

As the name implies, this is where you prepare your foods. The best spot for this zone is usually the largest counter space between the sink and the oven/stovetop, the peninsula, or the island.

Zone 2: The Cooking Zone

In the cooking zone, located near the stove and oven, you’ll want to place your pots, pans, casserole dishes, bakeware, cooking utensils, and pot holders.

Zone 3: The Clean-Up Zone

Located near the sink and the dishwasher, this zone includes items you need for cleaning up both your kitchen and dishes

Zone 4: Food Storage Zone

This zone is made up of your refrigerator and pantry, the two main areas you store your foods.
