MODERN SIMPLICITY MEETS COTTAGE CHARM IN THIS MUSKOKA LAKESIDE RETREAT

Nestled along the shoreline in Muskoka, Project Charlie is a newly built lakeside cottage featuring a kitchen that strikes the perfect balance between modern simplicity and traditional cottage character. Designed for relaxed yet refined living, this L-shaped kitchen is thoughtfully tailored to enhance both functionality and style for lakeside family gatherings and everyday comfort. With its crisp white cabinetry and striking black island, the space offers a fresh and inviting palette that feels right at home in a modern cottage setting.

Project Charlie Kitchen Design Details

The Details

At the heart of the design is the L-shaped layout, which combines white perimeter cabinetry with a charcoal black island featuring decorative kerf lines—adding subtle texture and a hint of traditional craftsmanship. Narrow shaker-style doors and drawers reinforce the modern aesthetic, while details like black hardware on the white cabinetry and warm brass hardware on the island add contrast and sophistication.

The upper cabinetry is kept minimal, with only the fridge wall featuring cabinets above and glass shaker doors that showcase warm red oak shelving inside. Floating red oak shelves flank the custom white range hood, which includes a matching red oak valance to create a natural, cohesive accent that softens the sleek lines and adds a timeless cottage touch.

The Materials

The cabinetry is painted in a clean white finish for the perimeter and a deep charcoal black for the island, both constructed with narrow shaker panels for a contemporary feel. The black island’s kerf-lined detailing lends it a handcrafted cottage essence, complemented by mixed metal hardware in black and brass for depth and interest.

Red oak elements—seen in the floating shelves, interior shelving behind the glass doors, and the hood valance—introduce warmth and texture to the space. The countertops and backsplash are white quartz with soft grey veining, bringing durability and a seamless, polished look to this inviting and timeless kitchen.
