Perched beside the main cottage, the guest cottage at Roberts Bay is elevated with a kitchen that makes a dramatic statement while offering full functionality for hosting and everyday use. This contemporary single-wall design with a standout kitchen island combines luxurious finishes, moody tones, and clever storage solutions. The result is a space that feels equally sophisticated and inviting—a true reflection of refined lakeside living.

Project Roberts Bay Design Details

The Details

The kitchen island is the star of the design, featuring a dual-height layout with a bar-height prep area and a lower dining surface, offering versatility for any occasion. A hidden Bocci outlet is tucked into the drop for seamless functionality without compromising aesthetics. The island’s base is clad in dramatic reeded stone, introducing a sculptural element, while the countertops continue in porcelain with bold white veining that echoes natural marble.

This porcelain surface carries onto the kitchen wall as both a full-height backsplash and a backsplash ledge, creating a cohesive and elevated look. On the right, a fully integrated paneled fridge blends into the cabinetry, while the left side conceals a pocket door coffee bar with a wall oven below.

The Materials

The cabinetry is crafted from flat-cut red oak, stained black to highlight the natural grain, adding depth and organic movement to the sleek slab fronts. Long, linear black pulls  complement the moody aesthetic while reinforcing the clean vertical lines of the cabinetry.

The countertops and backsplash are made of premium porcelain, chosen for both durability and beauty, with bold white veining that mimics the luxurious look of marble while offering resistance to staining and heat. The reeded stone cladding on the island base introduces a tactile, architectural element, grounding the space with texture and shadow play.

Black-stained wood, polished porcelain, and sculptural stone harmonize to create a refined palette that feels modern and dramatic, yet warm and timeless for lakeside living.
