Project Chateau Common is a stunning transformation of a builder-grade kitchen into a refined, high-performing space that merges traditional elegance with modern charm. Designed for a couple in their 60's seeking both visual appeal and lasting quality, the kitchen renovation focused on upgrading materials, improving functionality, and introducing standout design elements. By reworking the original layout and selecting a thoughtful palette of materials, this transitional kitchen delivers the wow factor the homeowners desired—balancing beauty, warmth, and everyday practicality.

The design details of Project Common Chateau

The Details

The redesign began with the client’s vision of an all-white kitchen with open shelving, but evolved through collaboration with her daughter and our team into a more layered and personalized space.

Red oak upper cabinetry brought warmth and texture, while crisp white lowers and a custom white range hood provided balance. A bold black peninsula with reeded drawer fronts added striking contrast and character.

The peninsula replaced a formerly awkward angled island, improving the flow between the kitchen and dining area. Custom elements include a matte black metal framed glass door hutch inspired by our Oakville showroom, a concealed coffee station/appliance garage, and hidden storage within the peninsula. Contrasting hardware—black for the perimeter and brass for the peninsula—further reinforces the custom look and enhances the overall design cohesion.

The Materials

The kitchen features red oak cabinetry on the upper perimeter with classic crown moulding, paired with white lower cabinetry, all in a thin shaker style enhanced by bead detailing. The black peninsula is finished with reeded shaker panels, adding a tactile and visual richness.

Durable white quartz countertops run throughout the kitchen, continuing up the walls for a sleek backsplash that includes a ledge under the range hood. Above the ledge, white tile climbs to the ceiling, drawing the eye upward. Finishing touches include matte black metal frame glass doors on the red oak hutch and a mix of black and brass hardware that reinforces the transitional feel.
